Ae Dil Hai Mushkil teaser: Welcome back Ranbir Kapoor; this Diwali release is all about love
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil seems to be a typical Karan Johar film, and yet you are left curious for more
Trust a director like Karan Johar, who has pretty much only love stories to his credit, to make yet another love story and still grip you like it was the first time.
Trust a director like Karan Johar to tell you a story within a one minute long trailer, and a story that makes you curious about its characters.
The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil teaser was released online on 30 August, and immediately started trending.
With actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan, Johar has struck gold on his casting.
Ranbir's eyes do the talking for him, while Anushka's histrionics make her instantly likable.
What immediately makes you sit up take note is Ranbir and Aishwarya's chemistry. It's not just the regular older woman, mysterious charm. Their brief encounters remind you of the same level of passion seen between Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala in Dil Se. It's a huge relief that Aishwarya has not been portrayed in typical older woman tropes (think Dimple Kapadia in Dil Chahta Hai)
The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil teaser starts by showcasing us the different emotions on display as these four characters play with love.
There's romance, both the warm kind and the intense kind. There's angst, there's unrequited love, and a bucket-load of drama. It seems to be a typical Karan Johar film, and yet you are left curious for more. Fawad Khan sports a grungy, disheveled look and managed to pique interest in a mere 10-second cameo.
But perhaps the most engaging thing about the teaser is how it starts with a melodious song, sung by Arijit Singh and only gives us one line, said by a seductively emotive Ranbir, to sum up what we are watching: 'Ek tarfa pyar ki taaqat hi kuch aur hoti hai, auro ke rishton ki tarah yeh do logon mein nahi bathti, sirf mera haq hai ispe (unrequited love has its own strength, it doesn't get divided between two people, it is only mine to claim).'
Welcome back, Ranbir Kapoor. We've missed you. Hopefully this is your time to shine.

The Bollywood dream sequence helped stretch my imagination in a way that I believed the whole world was within me. This self-sufficiency helped me get through the physical setting I was in, from awkward social gatherings to the confines of my home during the pandemic.
