Adrien Brody hasn’t taken a new role since The Brutalist: Didn't Feel Right

Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody has confirmed that he has not taken on any new film role since delivering his celebrated performance in ‘The Brutalist’, the film that earned him his second Academy Award earlier this year. The actor, whose portrayal of architect László Tóth drew widespread critical acclaim, revealed that he has been consciously selective in the months following his historic win.

Speaking about his current hiatus from new projects at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2025, Brody said, “I’ve not taken a film since The Brutalist. It’s not because I have not had interesting opportunities, but it didn’t feel quite right.” The actor added that while he still loves the collaborative and creative process of film-making, the decision not to pursue another role immediately stems from a desire to maintain artistic integrity rather than rush into work for the sake of momentum.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Brody’s performance in ‘The Brutalist’ was widely regarded as one of the most intense and emotionally demanding roles of his career. The film, set in post-war America, follows a Hungarian-Jewish immigrant rebuilding his life while grappling with trauma, identity, and the search for stability. After such a deeply immersive experience, industry watchers say it is unsurprising that Brody is taking time to re-calibrate before committing to his next project.

Brody on being choosy after ‘The Pianist’

Reflecting on his career decisions, Brody noted that while he experimented with a variety of roles early on, he has become increasingly selective since winning his first Best Actor Oscar for ‘The Pianist’ in 2003.

“I assumed that I had less to prove, that I am a good actor and that I can take work that felt interesting and you have a responsibility to a career trajectory. I was quite young, and it takes time to understand that,” he said.

The World awaits his next film

While Brody has not confirmed any upcoming films, insiders suggest he continues to receive a stream of strong scripts. Anticipation is building around what will become his first role post ‘The Brutalist’.
