Aamir Khan's Rakesh Sharma biopic has a title, and it's Saare Jahan Se Achcha
After Nitesh Tiwari's Dangal hits the theatres this month, Aamir Khan has another biopic to look forward to — that of Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian man to enter space. The biopic, directed by Mahesh Mathai, has now been titled Saare Jahan Se Achcha.
During his venture into space in 1984, Sharma had spoken these four words to the then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi when she asked him how India looked from the outer world: 'Saare Jahan Se Achcha (the best in the world)' was an allusion to the famous song penned down by Mohammed Iqbal during the Independence struggle.
Therefore, it is only befitting that Sharma's biopic is titled so, over the other option Salute, as reported by India Today. The biopic will be produced by filmmaker Ronnie Screwvala's new production company RSVP. The director Mathai's claim to fame was another period drama Bhopal Express which released in 1999 and was based on the infamous Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
The same report suggests that Khan will begin shooting for the film once he wraps up the schedule of another period drama, Vijay Krishna Acharya's Thugs Of Hindostan which is slated to release on Diwali 2018.
However, Saare Jahan Se Achcha, owing to its delayed release, may fall short of making history. It may not be the first Indian space film as Sushant Singh Rajput is already prepping for Chanda Mama Door Ke, a frictional space adventure, which is being touted as the first space film of India.
Mumbai Mirror reports that the film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and will be directed by the National Award winning filmmaker Sanajay Puran Singh Chauhan whose last film was the critically acclaimed sports film Lahore that released in 2010. The report by Mumbai Mirror suggests that Chauhan has researched extensively at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) center for the project and has ensured that both the actors go through a rigorous training process before he starts filming.
