Actor and filmmaker Aamir Khan recently made a bold move for his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par as the heartwarming sports drama will not be released on any OTT platform like Netflix or Prime Video. The film, post its theatrical release on June 20, will be available on YouTube on the basis of pay-per-view, something never done before for a Hindi film.
YouTube: The TV killer
However, the Google online video-sharing platform has been turning out as a TV killer due to its anti-TV approach. During the traditional days, TV was a part of family viewing, where it was the pillar of entertainment with a particular content watched at a fixed time.
However, YouTube has broken this pattern as one can watch the content of their preference based on convenience at any point in time.
While in the USA, YouTube TV has become the third-largest subscriber. On the other hand, India has the largest YouTube audience in the world with 491 million users and 122 million daily users with an average of two-and-a-half hours every day.
YouTube: A global phenomenon
Right from news to entertainment, this infinite-scrolling platform gives access to a variety of content at the finger of your tip.
Talking about Sitaare Zameen Par , a source said, “Aamir doesn’t want to release his films directly on streaming after their theatrical run, as it discourages viewers from watching movies on the big screen. It is also a reason why there is no streaming logo on the poster of Sitaare Zameen Par.”

The lyrics are penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and the music is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The screenplay is written By Divy Nidhi Sharma. The film is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, with Ravi Bhagchandka as the producer.
