Star cast: Margot Robbie, Colin Farrell, Kevin Kline, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Director: Kogonada
‘Life is better when you are open. ’ This sentence sums the crux of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. The After Yang pair of actor Colin Farrell and director Kogonada have reunited for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.
The romantic fantasy narrates the story of Sarah and David (Margot and Colin), two singles who have opposite characteristics, as they embark on a journey together through a magic GPS operated by cosmic matchmakers, disguised as a car-renting firm.
The journey, which is expected to be big, bold, and beautiful, takes them to their past and flashbacks, which are deeply connected to them, narrating how the human psyche and behaviour change according to the surroundings and sometimes become a mess.
Sarah and David traverse from door to door to discover and rediscover themselves through their past, which made them who they are. And this, built up by the filmmaker, is beautiful, which looks real yet unreal. The joys and pains of Sarah and David from their past create a connection between them, and to see what unfolds later, you have to watch A Big Bold Beautiful Journey on the big screen_._
While the fantastical world of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is a visual treat with charming performances of Colin and Margot, it somehow fails to create a magical love story with romanticism.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey looks like one of those films which seem to have great potential on paper but disappoint with their execution. For me, the biggest drawback it didn’t find resonance or relevance despite being set up in today’s practical world, which showcases different emotions of human beings.
Apart from its slow pace, the movie takes its sweet time to showcase the imperfections of humans, which somehow makes a mark.
On the whole, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is a visual treat, but lacks depth and relevance.
