Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail featuring Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankr, which was released last year, didn’t only garner critical acclaim but also emerged as a box office winner.

At the recently held International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, while discussing his cult movie Parinda, the filmmaker revealed that many artists including Hollywood felt that 12th Fail would have been a strong contender from India at the Oscars but the filmmaker said that he is not concerned about the awards.

“Can I tell you one thing? So many people have told me, including people in Hollywood, that 12th Fail should have represented India at Oscars, not whatever went. Say yes or no, do I care? What I care for, did I make a good film, did I not make a good film. So please don’t give so much importance (to awards). Awards are for people outside of (the industry) who are acknowledging you for God knows what reasons. So please don’t bother," said Vidhu at IFFI.

12th Fail, based on a true story, draws from the struggles of the millions of students who attempt the UPSC entrance exam. But at the same time, it goes beyond that one exam and encourages people to not lose heart in the face of failure and to restart.
