12th Fail box office: Vikrant Massey-Vidhu Vinod Chopra's film ends its second week on a winning note

In a remarkable triumph, Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s directorial “12th Fail” has captivated audiences, amassing a staggering 1.50 crores net on a Thursday, propelling its total box office collection to an impressive 27.11 crores net. The inspirational narrative is set to surpass the 30 crores milestone this weekend, marking a soaring success for the film. As the festival season is here _12th Fail_ is continuing to perform well and it’s about to cross the mark of 30 Cr. at the box office amid Diwali. With phenomenal word of mouth from the audience, the film is growing on a daily basis. The audience are loving the narrative the film has brought and looking at its steady growth, the film will surely leave its mark at the box office.

Talking about the preparation of his character, Vikrant told Firstpost, “Very challenging, although I don’t say things like these too much; this one particular character was very demanding. For example, I had to learn the language and the dialect which everyone has to do but I had to go the extra mile because Vinod Chopra didn’t want any makeup, he wanted me to naturally darken my skin as much as possible. To achieve that, I would apply mustard oil and sit on my terrace and sun bathe, and wait for my skin to peel off just like onion peel. What was also required was to understand the dialect and the student culture. I wasn’t aware of this kind of student culture where people are really aspiring for government jobs or wanting to contribute from their end to the society. It’s a difficult sphere to be in and very challenging. If you see the trailer, only 30-40% students get select from the Hindi medium and that’s the truth. These are the people that come from very very challenged sections of the society. To have the ability to restart when you fail, it’s a major challenge. I did spend a lot of time with students and I got to know their perspective and why they are doing this. It opens up your world.” 12th Fail, based on a true story, draws from the struggles of the millions of students who attempt the UPSC entrance exam. But at the same time, it goes beyond that one exam and encourages people to not lose heart in the face of failure and to restart. The film, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, is now released in cinemas in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
