Beni's remark smack off 'tacit' Cong-BSP understanding: SP

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party today said Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma’s stand of post-poll tie-up between Congress and BSP in Uttar Pradesh smacked off a “tacit understanding” between the two parties. “Congress leaders, it seems have got depressed due to realisation of the outcome of Assembly polls. Leaders like Beni Prasad Verma and Digvijay Singh are issuing absurd statements,” SP spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury said. Verma, who created a flutter by advocating Congress’ post-poll alliance with BSP in Uttar Pradesh, today stuck to his stand saying there should be no truck with “a party of goondas”. “BSP is better than SP which is a party of goondas …even if Congress falls short of the majority mark, it would have the key to government formation,” Verma said. Apparently buoyed by exit poll predictions, Chowdhury said the Congress would realise its “deplorable ground situation” in UP after the results are out tomorrow. He claimed that SP would not need support of any party as it would get absolute majority. PTI
