Mega Star vs Power Star: Will Chiranjeevi be undone by his brother?

It’s something straight out of a Telugu film with two brothers battling it out for political glory. And the story already has a star cast in place. The battle between ‘Mega Star’ Chiranjeevi and ‘Power Star’ Pawan Kalyan is just hotting up with the latter’s new party founded on just one major objective: ruining the Congress’s prospects in the state.

Since his political career took a nose dive, forcing him to merge his political party with the Congress, Chiranjeevi has had it pretty good. He’s been Tourism Minister and despite the creation of Telangana, he could have hoped to find himself back in the Lok Sabha given the mass support he enjoys.

But then came along younger brother Kalyan who has formed a new party called the Jana Sena with the lone agenda of targeting Congress candidates across the state . Kalyan, who’s been schmoozing with the BJP in Delhi, is reportedly even seeking an appointment with the party’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, for support for his new political outfit.

Kalyan, who doesn’t plan to take part in the elections himself, is willing to field candidates or even back any other party’s candidate as long as they’re not part of the Congress, reported the Indian Express . Kalyan is also being wooed by the Telugu Desam Party, given the support he enjoys among the youth and Kapu community.

Obviously this move hasn’t gone down too well with big brother Chiranjeevi, who as the campaign committee chief of the Congress in the state, is already staring down the barrel of defeat in a year they are facing criticism over how Telangana was created.

However, when you’re a film star, you never go down without a good dialogue and when you’re Chiranjeevi, sometimes experience can help you come up with lines better than anything a script writer could ever give you.

Asked about how he would take on his brother in the election, Chiranjeevi told the Deccan Chronicle ,"Jana Sena is a political opponent of me like every other political party. His slogan is “Quit Congress and save India”. In fact, the Indianness is brought by Congress. Let me face Kalyan in the elections."

In films it may have curdled many a villain’s blood, but unfortunately for Chiranjeevi, if the Jana Sena joins forces with either the TDP or any other major party, Kalyan may well decide his older brother’s political future.
