Sawant has declared that she will fight from the Mumbai north west constituency and her focus, apart from dressing like her party’s symbol of a green chilly will be to serve the ‘dukhi janata’ (sad people).

Rakhi Sawant is now not only a candidate in the Lok Sabha elections but even has her own political party: the Rashtriya Aam Party. While it may sound like a party for mangoes, it in fact is the party that with its single Lok Sabha candidate hopes to address the worries of the regular man more than the Aam Aadmi Party, which has the first mover advantage. Sawant has declared that she will fight from the Mumbai north west constituency and her focus, apart from dressing like her party’s symbol of a green chilly will be to serve the ‘dukhi janata’ (sad people). “I have done lots for my colony and its betterment…whether it has involved fixing roads or water issues…Why won’t I be taken seriously? I can be a good politician. People should judge my work and then form an opinion,” she told the Hindustan Times. PTI[/caption] She has her share of Bollywood competitors for company. Director-actor Mahesh Manjrekar and self proclaimed star Kamaal R Khan are in the running for the bottom three. While Rakhi has her own party, reportedly backed by local builders and restauranteurs, Manjrekar is standing on a MNS ticket and Khan on a Samajwadi Party ticket. Manjrekar has maintained a wise silence, preferring instead to attend rallies across the constituency. Largely seen as a spoiler to the chances of the Shiv Sena candidate, thanks to party chief Raj Thackeray outlining the party’s strategy well in advance, Manjrekar has little to say and even less to do. Khan on the other hand is expected to compete with Rakhi for eyeballs and soundbites, and can call it a good campaign if he manages to best her. Expect Bigg Boss on the streets of suburban Mumbai. Current Congress MP Gurudas Kamat will hope that the battle for eyeballs will keep voters away from unseating him.
