In the battle between the ‘Thalaiva’ and the ‘Captain’, in the Tamil Nadu box office there’s little doubt about who would emerge victorious. But when Rajinikanth won over Vijaykanth for Narendra Modi’s attention, the latter was offended and even stayed away from the BJP prime ministerial candidate’s rally in Chennai. A Times of India report says that Vijaykanth was so upset about not being informed about Modi’s impending visit to the city that he didn’t campaign over the weekend and didn’t even allow any of his party’s leaders to attend the Modi rally in Chennai. [caption id=“attachment_1478899” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] DMDK chief Vijaykanth isn’t smiling too much about getting the cold shoulder from Modi. Firstpost image[/caption] There’s a reason for this anger: Vijaykanth’s party is part of the grand alliance that the BJP has stitched together in the state and the actor’s party is perhaps the biggest in the bloc. “He (Vijaykanth) has been promoting Modi as the prime ministerial candidate wherever he goes. But BJP seems to be giving more importance to another actor who has not even expressed his support for BJP,” an unnamed source close to the Captain told ToI. Cue violins and tears. Unfortunately the meeting with Rajinikanth for Modi went much like his meeting went with Bollywood’s Salman Khan. He got the flashbulbs but no endorsement from the notoriously apolitical superstar who instead said it was just a meeting of two friends. Rajinikanth did wish him well, which if you give any credence to the jokes about the superstar, should be more than enough, but it looks like Vijaykanth may just have had the final laugh. Maybe this clip might have changed Modi’s mind on taking Vijaykanth a little more seriously:
Modi’s meeting with the Tamil superstar hasn’t gone down well with another superstar who’s allying with him.
