Both Sonia and Mohan died on the spot. Sonia’s drivers, Keshav and Rajesh, sustained injuries while Mohan Kumar’s 16 year old son Ajay also survived the high speed crash. The accident took place near Uday Park bus stop, meters away from the Siri Fort auditorium. An eyewitness told The Indian Express, “The Honda City flew towards the right and crashed into a pole, and the Swift stopped 50 metres away. I rushed to see if the driver was alive. I saw that a woman inside the Honda was unconscious and bleeding. She was stuck between the two seats. The car was crushed badly from behind, so it was difficult to open the door and rescue her.” Police told the national daily that Sonia was returning from a friend’s house in Gulmohar Park after a party. Sonia’s husband, Rajendra Sethia, and Fardeen Khan were at the AIIMS mortuary on Monday afternoon to receive the body, says the The Indian Express report. Chhaya Sharma, Delhi’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, told NDTV, “It is difficult to tell which is the offending vehicle right now.” Less than six hours after this accident, a tempo crushed a school boy to death near Ansal Plaza, around 200 meters away from the site of the first accident, says a news report in T_he Hindustan Times._ “Each and every accident on this stretch is being analysed and we are in the process of drawing a traffic plan to make it safer,” Hindustan Times quoted Sudhir Yadav, special CP (traffic), as saying.
A fatal road accident claims two lives and six hours later a young boy is crushed to death by a tempo.
