Is baby Falak the victim of an adoption racket?

The latest statement of the teenager who brought a battered baby Falak to AIIMS, seems to suggest that baby Falak might very well be a victim of an adoption racket. On Friday, the teenager told child welfare committee (CWC) members that after getting baby Falak, Rajkumar was contemplating adoption of another baby. Remember, as per the police version, Falak’s biological mother abandoned her at the home of her employer, Laxmi. Rajkumar alias Dishad obtained Falak and brought her to his home. When Rajkumar’s wife discovered his relationship with the teenager, she refused to keep the baby with the family. That was when he shifted to a guest house in Mahipalpur with the teenager and the baby. After this, according to the teenager’s latest statement, Rajkumar met someone who asked Rajumar if he wanted to adopt a baby. Rajkumar, his friend Nikki and the teenager went to meet a man at Govindpuri metro station. “The man said that there are two babies- one boy and one girl. The boy was already adopted and asked Rajkumar if he wanted to adopt the baby girl,’ revealed the teenager. She was the sole custodian of the baby at that time. Before this, she said, she was taking good care of the baby. Here is what happened on the night of January 17 (as per the teen’s statement to the CWC members on Friday): That night when the baby did not stop crying, the teen slapped and bit her. After sometime she tried to give a bath to the baby. The baby slipped in the bathroom and fell down face wards and hit her head and lips on the edge of the bathroom. The baby started bleeding profusely. She tied a bandage around the baby’s head but the wound became bigger and opened up more. After sometime the baby was asleep. In the meantime the teen spoke to Rajkumar on phone. He advised her not to go to the hospital as it was late night. The next morning the baby did not wake up. The teenager alerted the woman who used to work as a cleaner on the guest house. The two took Falak to AIIMS. “The incident could have avoided had the real parents of the baby taken care of her without abandoning her. It is unfortunate ot just for the baby girl but also for the teenager as she feels guilty and sad for whatever has happened to the baby,’ ruled the CWC. Since then, the baby has been battling for life at the hospital. Today morning the doctors put Falak off ventilator. Though in a coma, she is responding to the antibiotics given to her. “If she remains stable, we will perform a surgery next week,” Dr Deepak Agrawal, the pediatric neurosurgeon at AIIMS, who is treating Falak, told Firstpost. This is the second time since her admission to AIIMS on 18 January that the two-year-old baby has been taken off the ventilator. Delhi police has so far arrested four people in this case. These include Jitender Agrawla father of the teenager who allegedly assaulted her. Sandeep Pandey, Pooja and Aarti have been booked on the charges of forcing the girl into prostitution.
