Give monthly figures of offences against women: SC tells Delhi govt

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Delhi government to furnish information on the number of offences committed against women in the national capital every month. A bench headed by Justice GS Singhvi also directed the state government to provide the video footage of a protest in which police had allegedly manhandled some people including women protesting at a police station in northeast Delhi in June this year. ![Delhi_Protests_AP](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Delhi_Protests_AP.jpg) The bench directed the government to place the information and footage on Wednesday when it will watch the video recording of the protest in which the girls were allegedly manhandled. The bench was hearing a petition which sought setting up of a special team of Delhi Police to probe an alleged incident of policemen beating up Aam Aadmi Party members protesting non-registration of an FIR in a rape case. The petition was filed by 19 affected people including a minor girl, who was also slapped by a police official in April this year while protesting in a hospital against the rape of a five-year-old girl in east Delhi. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for them, had earlier submitted that the minor girl and her two brothers were among the 19 people who were specially targeted by the cops of Gokulpuri Police station in north east Delhi on 19 June. He had claimed that the girl and her brothers were targeted as it was on her complaint that an officer of ACP level was suspended for slapping her at a hospital when she was trying to meet the rape victim. The bench headed by Justice Singhvi had earlier taken suo motu cognisance of the slapping of the girl at the hospital. In the petitions relating to the incident of Gokulpuri police station, they have sought a probe by the special team in which the members should not be from the same police station. They have also demanded compensation for the alleged incident. PTI
