The government has decided to waive 50 percent off the power bills for those who did not pay from October 2012 and did not submit the bills until Dec 13, Delhi Minister Manish Sisodia said.

New Delhi: The Delhi government Wednesday exempted some 24,000 people who took part in an AAP campaign against inflated electricity tariff from paying 50 percent of the bills for that period.

The government has decided to waive 50 percent off the power bills for those who did not pay from October 2012 and did not submit the bills until Dec 13, Delhi Minister Manish Sisodia said.

He told the media that the penalty imposed on these people for delayed payment would also be scrapped.

Sisodia said these 24,000 people who did not pay their bills were part of the ‘Bijli Pani Satyagraha’ launched in 2012. The total money waived off amounts to Rs.6 crore.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced the exemption and added that the amount due from these people would be paid by the government.
