YouWeCan Ventures: Yuvraj Singh wants to do an Uber with salon and spa app Vyomo

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s $10 million start-up fund YouWeCan today made its debut by investing an undisclosed amount in Vyomo, a mobile marketplace for beauty and wellness, which was founded last year by Abhinav Kare and Poonam Marwah, graduates from London Business School. The capital provided by the venture fund into the mobile phone-based beauty and wellness platform is just seed funding but Singh is looking to replicate the success of Uber and Ola in the beauty and wellness sector through Vyomo. [caption id=“attachment_2203694” align=“alignleft” width=“300”] Image: Vyomo Image: Vyomo[/caption] Vyomo will work as an aggregator of salons, spas and stylists on its e-commerce platform in a model similar to that of Uber and Ola that have taxis enrolled on their platforms to offer services. So basically, Vyomo will just create the platform for sellers and buyers as opposed to the standard inventory model, where the retailer owns the entire inventory that is listed on the website. Vyomo’s mobile app for businesses, consisting salons, spas and stylists will be available for iOS and Android platform from May 2015. An app for customers will be launched in July. The site allows you to discover spas and salons near you, check pricing, deals ratings and reviews as well as book the appointment with the respective spa or salon. The platform gives stylists, Salons and Spas an opportunity to  accept bookings 24*7 by a tap on the mobile screens. “We would like to support empowerment of millions of beauty professionals and help them improve their lives, income and be part of their personal milestones,” Yuvraj Singh said in a statement issued by the company. “Vyomo team is happy and excited to have Yuvraj Singh onboard with us; as he begins new innings as venture capitalist,” Kare said on Facebook. Launched early this month, YouWeCan is a seed-stage venture capital fund that will back internet start-ups in the country. Yuvraj Singh holds over 80 percent stake in the VC firm while the rest is held by co-founder Nishant Singhal. YouWeCan has also identified a few more startups in the travel and tourism, healthcare, sports, fashion and real estate spaces and the average ticket size of investment would be Rs 10-25 lakh.
