FMCG major Hindustan Unilever is re-launching the ‘Liril Girl’. They have come out with a new commercial featuring the trademark ‘La, lalala, la, la, la’ tune being hummed by  a girl frolicking under a waterfall with a Liril soap. Lowe Lintas & Partners came up with the idea of the Liril Girl in 1974. However, Liril stopped making ad films in the same vein from 2009. In commercial after commercial, the Liril Girl – from the original model Karen Lunel to actors Pooja Batra, Preity Zinta and Deepika Padukone – could be seen playing in the water, diving, jumping and swimming under the waterfall. And now, the new campaign,  will featurie Brazilian model Anabelle.

Alyque Padamsee, former CEO of Lintas and the creator of the ‘Liril girl’ told Economic Times , “I feel vindicated because there are some appeals that are timeless. Freshness in a tropical country has an eternal appeal which is now being revived.” " These are the roots of Liril. They don’t change. And what we’re doing is paying homage to the Liril that we all know, bringing alive the very same elements that have been part of our popular culture through time," George Koshy, general manager for personal wash category was quoted as saying by ET.  Watch the ad below:

And here’s the first ever Liril soap ad in 1985, featuring Karen Lunel. This ad was brilliant for its time, a product of Alyque Padamsee’s imagination. It was shot in Kodaikanal, at a waterfall a little beyond Guna caves.
