Flipkart is now officially in the big league with global e-commerce giants like eBay, thanks to the new marketplace model it has introduced where it will bring together sellers and buyers.
To kick start the feature, it has signed on 50 retailers that sell books, media, and consumer electronics categories, a report in NextBigWhat indicated. More categories will be added soon.

What does this mean for the company? It puts Flipkart directly in competition with eBay and Snapdeal which are big players in the marketplace model. On the business side, it reduces the burden of inventory as the fulfillment is taken care of by the seller. But the NBW report suggests that Flipkart will ensure delivery.
It’s another source of income as sellers register with the site for a fee. The strong traffic that Flipkart boasts, makes it a favourable platform for sellers to be on.
All these moves point towards industry rumours that Flipkart is fixing its regulatory loopholes, introducing new payment options ( the company announced support of international credit cards) and now the marketplace.
