Utlising its resources to the maximum, Uber offered its carpooling service to New York customers attending a rally in favour of the company.
Uber organised a protest against a legislation backed by Mayor Bill de Blasio that would end up limiting the annual growth of car services in the city, in order to limit congestion on the streets. Thus, protesters attending the rally outside New York’s City Hall from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm on Tuesday could avail free UberPool rides to and from the event, reported Time .
New York City customers received an email from Uber on Monday, which read “Save Uber as you know it in NYC.”
The email as reported by Business Insider read: “We need your help. Mayor de Blasio is supporting a bill that would stop thousands of new drivers from joining the Uber platform. This bill would destroy 10,000 job opportunities for New Yorkers in just one year, and result in longer wait times, higher prices and less reliable service for riders.”
According to the New York Post , vehicle companies with bases that have more than 500 drivers would be limited to an annual increase of a mere one percent. Uber has about 26,000 drivers in the city.
Defending its services, Uber’s email informed customers that its UberPool service, which pairs riders going in the same direction, infact helps solve the problem of congestion.
