Tesla begins another round of layoffs, this time in software, service teams: Report

Tesla, an electric vehicle manufacturer, has made layoffs in its engineering, software, and service departments.

The Elon Musk-led automaker dissolved its EV charging division after announcing last month that it was cutting more than 10% of its global workforce, according to a tech publication called Electrek on Monday.

As part of larger layoffs, automotive employees received emails over the weekend, according to the Electrek article.

Last month, the corporation announced that it will be laying off around 6,700 workers across its locations in Texas, California, Nevada, and New York.

Elevated interest rates have hindered the uptake of electric vehicles, putting pressure on automakers to lower prices, and Tesla has been facing these challenges.

According to experts, Musk may be reducing his expenditure on some teams in order to save money for his humanoid robot Optimus, robotaxis, and autonomous driving software, which are the company’s main priorities.

Tesla revealed last month that it anticipates incurring second-quarter costs for the widespread layoffs of more than $350 million. Top executives like Daniel Ho, Rebecca Tinucci, Rohan Patel, and Drew Baglino left the company as a result of the job reduction.

It is anticipated that this move will enable the corporation to better control capital expenditures. In April, the company said that it was developing “new models” that would make use of its current platforms and production lines.
