Ahmedabad: Ahead of the festive season, Tata Motors today announced the formal launch of Tata Nano emax, the CNG version of Tata Nano the boost the sale of cheapest four-wheeler available in the country.

The Nano CNG ’eMax’ comes equipped with a 32-litre CNG tank and its claimed 36 km per kg fuel efficiency should allow a range of 400 km, the company said in a statement. The price for the car is Rs 2.52 lakh, ex-showroom Mumbai.

The 36 km per kg fuel efficiency is as per Automotive Research Association of India’s (ARAI) norms, while the carbon footprint, according to the company, is 75.6 gm per kg.

Earlier in June, the Tata group had announced that it would launch a CNG version of the Nano. The Nano CNG ’eMax’ is the first of the five brands in the ’eMax series’ of CNG cars which the group plans to launch.

“Nano was a path-breaking invention and the CNG version only adds to that. It also underlines our commitment to be a sustainable automotive player,” Tata Motors Ltd Senior Vice-President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (Commercial), Tata Motors Ltd, Ankush Arora said.

Arora said that use of CNG is popular in Gujarat due to which the CNG version of Nano was launched in Ahmedabad, adding that the company plans to take it to National Capital Region, Mumbai, parts of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and North-East India.

He said the car would be manufactured at its facility in Sanand, on the outskirts of the city. Tata Nano sales have not been as per the company’s expectation and this move is likely to help the the product.
