Bangalore: Tata Group’s subsidiary Roots Corporation Ltd is expanding its presence in the midsize hospitality sector to have 50 budget hotels under its ‘Ginger’ brand by 2015 across the country, an official said Monday.
“We are planning to have about 50 Ginger hotels in the lower-end of the midsize market over the next two years from 26 presently in view of the huge potential for budget hotels in the country and encouraging response we have been getting in this segment,” Roots chief executive P.K. Mohan Kumar told reporters here Monday.

Pioneered by the group’s Indian Hotels Company Ltd, Roots’ Ginger hotels are designed to have unique space that is conducive for guests in terms of comfort, relaxation and work requirements.
Unveiling the 27th and second Ginger hotel in this tech hub, Kumar said the Tata group had revolutionised the Indian hospitality sector by opening its first budget hotel at Whitefield in Bangalore seven years ago (2005-06) and setting up a chain of such hotels across metros, tier-one and tier-two cities in the country.
“Being first in the branded segment, we have been able to maintain leadership with about 60 percent market share in the midsize hospitality sector by attracting a variety customers, including new age business travellers, professionals and delegates who frequent metros and cities for meetings, conferences, interventions and exhibitions,” Kumar said.

More ShortsWith an average occupancy of about 70 percent, the Ginger hotels provide smart, stylish and chic services at affordable rates in the range of Rs.2,500-3,000 a room a day.
Typically, a Ginger boasts of smart space, safe zone and a gym for a pleasant stay, while its rooms are equipped with basic amenities such as a mini-fridge, LCD TV, self-controlled air-conditioner, tea/coffee maker and a phone.
“We offer complimentary Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) to all our resident guests in the hotels and rooms, a multi-cuisine restaurant, a meeting-cum-conference room, net zone, vending machines, digital safe deposit boxes and an extra sofa-cum-bed in deluxe rooms,” Kumar said.
Located in the upscale eastern suburb of the city, which is home to several Indian and multinational IT firms, corporates, and commercial centres, the second Ginger has 65 rooms, including 25 double rooms and a coffee cafe.
The company is set to open seven more Ginger hotels at Amristar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Noida near Delhi and Pune.
“Ginger hotels characterise freshness and are modern, modular and scalable, providing guests with a rich aesthetic experience,” Kumar added.
