For global sports fans, Twitter is the closest thing they have to a real time platform to engage with one another. But there is a new player in town now: FanSpectrum.
The_Hindu Business Line_ reportsthat the US-based start-up, founded bytwo Indians, Dikshith Rai and Praveen Castelino, from Mangalore, and Vibor Cilic, a Croat, is hoping to become a full fledged social sports portal by the 2014 FIFA World Cup later this year.
The idea came to duo during the time of the 2012 London Olympics, and they are using the ongoing T20 World Cup as a test run. Rai, Castelino and Cilic were contemplating a platform to connect football fans across the world.
Rai told_HBL_: “If I want to say something to my fellow sports fans, there is no platform to engage with them. That is why we felt we should build something for this set of people. Fanspectrum.com connects them on the map when a match is in progress.”
The main features on the site are theFanBattle, FanArmy and FanLeague.
The FanArmy allows supporters of the same teams or clubs to form ‘armies’ and battle opponents. The FanBattle is live only during a match and uses Google Maps to show real time fan reactions. FanLeague displays the results of the FanBattle (not the real match).
