Right here, almost right now: E-comm sites rush to offer same day delivery across India

While the arrival of e-commerce in India gave us the luxury of shopping in our pajamas, it still lacked the thrill of opening up new purchases once home. But thanks to enterprising and innovative sites like Flipkart, Amazon, we can now receive the items bought on the day we pay for them.

The _Times of India_reportsthat many big ticket players in the Indian e-commerce sector, like Snapdeal and Myntra, are working to deliver orders almost as soon as they are ordered.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Myntra is working on its logistics to ensure that products leave the warehouse in about 30 minutes after an order is placed, as opposed to the earlier four hours, the article states.Myntra COO Ganesh Subramanian told TOI:“We delivered stuff in 58 minutes for customers in a 5-10km radius. By the time customers were done with breakfast, we had delivered their packet.”

Snapdeal is working on a quick delivery service, similar to the 30-minutes-or-free model of Dominoes Pizza, where customers will be given store credit if the order isn’t received within a certain time-frame.

Market leaders Amazon and Flipkart are testing same-day delivery and next-day services in cities across India, for an additional charge.

But it isn’t just quick delivery that these websites are working on; they are also developing innovative services to enhance the online shopping experience.

Flipkart is currently testing a ‘Try and Buy’ service in Bangalore for apparel products. Taking the ‘bring the shopping home’ experience a step further, Flipkart’s pilot service allows customers to order up to three combinations of a particular clothing item (like a pair of Levi’s jeans in three varieties of sizes and colours) and deliver the products to their homes. Shoppers can then try the products, and choose to either buy the goods or return all of them – at no extra charge.

The only restriction, so far, with the service is that only three items per brand can be ordered; however, multiple orders of three (per brand) can be placed at one go.
