New Delhi: Challenging the one-size-fits-all approach of leading electronics manufacturers, a home-growncompany has brought in a new concept of customised tablets forspecific segments like children, women, seniors, professionalsand gamers with prices starting at under Rs 5,000.
Besides being customised at the hardware and softwarelevels, these tablets – under the brand name ‘Pinig Tabs’ andpowered by Android operating system – would provide ‘manageddevice’ services to users through the product’s lifecycle.

The company, Pinig Tech, has categorised its tablets asExecutive Tab, Kids Tab, Woman Tab, Gaming Tab and Senior Tabfor different user groups. The tablets would start at a priceof under Rs 5,000 and can go up to Rs 12,800 depending on theconfiguration that a user requires.
“We are passionate about technology and want to make iteasy to use for everybody. You shouldn’t have to be tech-savvyto enjoy all the benefits of technology. While your 8-monthold child can use the Kids Tab for learning numbers andrhymes, your 70-year old dad can use the Senior Tab to watchhis grandchildren learn their first words,” Pinig Tech’sco-founder Piyush Nigam said.
These tablets would come with a range of apps selected onthe basis of the needs of the target user, while ensuringcompatibility with a particular device’s configuration.
The company said that Pinig Tab would be a ‘manageddevice’, which means that it automatically upgrades chosenapps as and when a new version of the app is released.The company has also lined up big plans for the upcomingfestive season, while it is also in talks with leading
e-commerce sites for exclusive associations.
Besides, Pinig aims to tap social media platforms andschools to promote these tabs.
Apart from discounts, Pinig would be offering festivepacks that include branded tablet covers, earphones, 3G dongleand other accessories.
Rise of smartphones with large screen has eaten into theglobal tablet and 2-in-1 market with shipment growing just 3.9per cent to 50.4 million units in the January-March quarter,research firm IDC said.
Slow growth across commercial and consumer segments sawsales of players like Apple, Asus and Amazon also falling.However, customised tablets are becoming popular indeveloped countries with many players offering productstailor-made for specific customer groups.
