Have you been living alone in Mumbai for over a year now and spend most of your time at work and weekends doing your chores? Well worry not, because there are several start upsnow that can do your work for you while you spend your Sunday getting that much needed spa. Here’s our top five:
- MyPeon: Stuck at work but need to get odd jobs during office hours? Check out MyPeon! They not only take care of deliveries but also stand in queues to submit or pick up your documents.
Why we like it: You do not have to spend an entire day paying your bills or running around in the scorching sun for errands.Getmypeon takes care of all deliveries such as tickets, cake, documents, medical reports, groceries, couriers, cheque picks ups, bill payments etc. Of course, at a price. It charges Rs 200 charge for each errand.
- Party Hard Drivers: Personally, this service has been a boon to women’s safety at night. If you’re broke and don’t want to splurge on an Uber cab late at night, just make sure one among your group of friends has a car. And no, the one with the car need not be isolated or sipping Coke while the others are guzzling down their beers. Just contact theParty Hard Drivers. The premise is simple: You drink and they drive. The company only hires drivers; it does not provide cars. The drivers use the owners’ cars to take them back home. They are hired through references given by other drivers. Their information is recorded and they are traceable too. So if you’re planning a girls night out, you could simply callPHD or tweet for a driver. PHD takes extra care for a ladies night out by sending you an ’elderly driver.’
Why we like it:Getting home safe is the number one priority after a hard night of drinking and PHD is quite reliable. Pricing is not so reasonable though. The night charges that were priced earlier at Rs 500, have been now hiked to Rs 850 for a six-hour shift. But if you have friends to travel with you, it works out to be quite reasonable.
- Hammer and Mop: If you do not want to spend that Sunday cleaning up house, especially those cobwebs and the line of dust getting thicker by the window, just dial Hammer & Mop, a start-up that specializes in keeping homes spic and span. From microfiber dusters to advanced stain removal sponges, premium range of cleaning solutions, application of nanotechnology, in short, the works; Hammer & Mop has boarded the rocket. The everyday cleaning can be handled by your local bai, but this service is ideal for an after-party clean up.
Why we like it: Since Hammer and Mop charges anything between Rs 3,000 to Rs 5000 for a cleaning depending on the size of your house, it is ideal for a before Diwali or move-in.
4)Magic-O-Meal: One of the biggest concerns of living alone is tasty and healthy ghar ka khanna. And if that is available at a budget price, the meal gets delicious. While there are several tiffin services across Mumbai, one can’t vouch for their hygiene and calorie intake. Enter Magic-O-Meal. Their dabbasare low in cholesterol and packed in airtight, disposable, microwaveable containers. We are told that food is also testeddaily prior to delivery. Chinese, Italian and fast food are provided once a week.
Their 20 meal package costs Rs 1,500 a month (20 meals) which includes a veggie, dal, three rotis and salad while the Big Boss meal (2 veggies, dal, rice, 4 rotis and salad) costs Rs 1980.
Why we like it:**** It fits in your budget, is low on calories and youget an SMS about the day’smenu.
- Chamak Direct:**** My colleague faces a major problem when it comes to dry cleaning. Unable to find a good dry cleaning service in Goregaon West, he travels every week to Bandra (where he grew up).
Why we like it:VLS promises no damage to clothes. They use front loading washing machines which are technically regarded as better than top loading washing machines for clothes. Secondly, it usessteam iron which is crisper and lasts longer. The ironed clothes are wrapped in wrinkle-free packaging that helps retain the ironing till the clothes are used.Their dry cleaning rates are not exorbitant. For example, dry cleaning a suit will cost Rs 200 and Rs 135 per kg of clothes for just laundry services.
