New Delhi: Inviting Indian BPO companies to set up units, Scotland today said highly skilled workforce and lower cost of operation makes the country a lucrative investment destination.

“Scotland is recognised internationally as a world class BPO location… We think it can serve as a lucrative destination for Indian BPO firms looking at setting up centres in the European region,” Scottish Development International (SDI) India Country Manager Mark Dolan said.
SDI is a government agency which deals with international trade and investment.
The BPO sector in Scotland generates 10 billion and employs about 86,000 people, SDI data showed. Its areas of expertise include financial services, media/communications, telecom and utilities.
“Scotland government offers training grants and regular engagement to help companies grow their business in the country. Also, the availability of highly skilled workforce and lower cost of operations (compared to many EU countries) make Scotland a lucrative opportunity,” Dolan said.
He added that the multi-language capabilities of its workforce would help companies looking at expanding their presence.
The BPO sector in the country has grown by 54 percent since 2003, the data showed.
Some of the Indian BPOs which have centres in Scotland include HeroITES, Intelenet and Hinduja Global Solutions.
