It seems the Campa Cola residents in Mumbai are not willing to give up just yet.A day after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued notices to residents of the illegal flats of the Campa Cola compound, asking themto hand over their keys so that demolition work can begin, they organised a candle-light vigil outside their homes, all of them reiterating their fervent hope: ‘Achche din aane wale hain’.
The residents are of the hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took charge of his office early the same morning, would save their homes.

“Our vote was never for the Shiv Sena in the past. But this time, we voted for them unanimously due to their alliance with BJP, which campaigned saying ‘achche din aane wale hain’. Since we have voted BJP to power and Modiji has become Prime Minister, we feel that he should intervene in the matter and resolve it,” Shashi Motwani, a resident of Orchid Apartments told _Firstpost._
Meanwhile, residents have decided not to hand over keys of the illegal flats to the civic body.
In November 2013, the Supreme Court had taken suo motu cognisance of media reports about demolition of the building and had stayed the action, ordering the BMC to delay its demolition until May 31, 2014. More than 100 families have been residing in the housing complex for the past 25 years.
The letter to the residents stated that the BMC had made arrangements to collect keys of the premises from May 29 to June 2.
“On handing over the said keys, our staff will accompany you to take physical and vacant possession of the said premises on the same day.
“In the event of failure to hand over keys of the premises along with vacant physical possession by June 1, further legal action will be taken against you,” the letter stated. Flats were built without BMC permission and were hence declared illegal.
