Rahul Bajaj still in top gear, says no plan to retire

Mumbai: He may be at the helm of Bajaj Auto for decades, steering it through ups and downs, and seen the evolution of India Inc over the years, but veteran business leader Rahul Bajaj is in no mood to call it quits. [caption id=“attachment_2648790” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Rahul Bajaj. Reuters](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Rahul-Bajaj_Reuters_380.jpg) Rahul Bajaj, Chairman, Bajaj Auto. Reuters[/caption] “Last year, they told me that I have done 50 years in Bajaj Auto, I don’t know whether they meant when am I leaving… they tried, but I won’t, till He calls me,” Bajaj told a gathering of industry lobby IMC here, pointing to the sky. The 78-year-old billionaire is credited for taking the Pune-based auto company to new heights by evolving and keeping with the times. Bajaj Auto chairman’s assertion comes amid what can be termed as a season of retirements in India Inc that has seen prolific leaders like ITC boss Y C Deveshwar announcing plans of hanging up their boots. In one of the biggest announcements last week, ITC’s Y C Deveshwar, under whose leadership the company diversified into the FMCG segment, announced to relinquish his executive role in February next year. Engineering, procurement and construction major L&T has also been gearing up for life post Executive Chairman A M Naik, who is stepping down next year and has started a search for a successor.
