World Bank debuts on IIM circuit as placement season kicks off

In a first, World Bank has offered three positions in its Financial Instruments and Treasury department to IIM students as the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta kicks off its summer placement programme.

In a first, World Bank has offered three positions in its Financial Instruments and Treasury department to IIM students as the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta kicks off its summer placement programme.

A flurry of firms have qued up to hire interns and in just two days more than 230 offers were made, said an Economic Times report, quoting the press release .

As usual, consulting firms led the recruitment drive and offered 43 positions, with majors such as BCG, Bain & Co and AT Kearney hiring in large numbers. BCG extended the maximum offers, recruiting 12 students for their summer internship programme.

Despite the global slump, banks such as Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Nomura and HSBC made international offers. Other banks which hired from the campus included JP Morgan Chase, Barclays Capital, Royal Bank of Scotland, Credit Suisse, Standard Chartered, and Rothschild among others.

Private Equity firms also made their presence felt. Macquarie Infrastructure Fund, India Alternatives and Mizuho securities also made offers.

Among FMGC companies, P&G and Kraft Cadbury led with 7 offers. Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Nestle, Johnson & Johnson, Pepsi Co, Dabur, Asian Paints, Airtel, and Nokia also made offers.
