 Last week Restaurant magazine announced the world’s 50 best restaurants, naming Copenhagen’s Noma as the #1 restaurant in the world, voted by industry experts. Closer to home, Restaurant also earlier ranked the best restaurants in Asia. Here are some of the top restaurants across the continent.
#1 is Nahm in Bangkok. Headed by Michelin-star chef David Thompson, Nahm sticks to traditional Thai cuisine. Thompson stays true to the four pillars of Thai cuisine - sweet, salt, sour and spice. “I actually placed bets that I would go down in the rankings, and I lost,” Thompson told the WSJ in an interview. India-born chef Gaggan Anand bring his own twist to tradition Indian cuisines, combining old-school with molecular gastronomy inspired dishes. Anand trained with the research team at the world-famous Spanish restaurant El Bulli, which was itself ranked #1 in the world for a record five times before it closed its doors in 2011. Dedicated to modernising French cuisine, with a focus on seafood, Amber’s kitchen has been awarded two Michelin stars in the past and has been voted the best restaurant in China.
