Shanghvi, 58, is the founder, MD and largest shareholder of India’s biggest drug manufacturer, Sun Pharmaceuticals. Shanghvi’s net worth of $17.2 bn ranks him 45th in the global billionaire list. According to Bloomberg data, Shanghvi has about $100 mn in cash and $16.2 billion in equity assets. Earlier this year, his company agreed to buy Ranbaxy for $3.2 billion. The Bloomberg Index puts Hansjoerg Wyss ($13.8 bn) of Swiss medical device company Synthes second on the pharma list; third is Stefano Pessina ($9.4 bn),executive chairman of UK pharma firm Alliance Boots; fourth is Patrick Soon-Shiong ($8.5 bn) who made his billions selling two drug companies - APP Pharmaceuticals and Abraxis BioScience.
