The whole world is taking the ALS ice bucket challenge. Yet, unlike past celebrity-fuelled hashtag activism movements, the current social media phenomenon benefiting ALS, often called Lou Gehrig’s Disease, has attracted a noticeably high number of CEOs - particularly tech CEOs. Here’s a look at the global CEOs who took up the challenge. Bill Gates doing it the nerdy way: When Mark Zuckerberg challenged Bill Gates to complete The Ice Bucket Challenge, Gates designed a lovable high-tech contraption for the low-tech task of pouring a bucket of water on himself.[/caption]

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was one of the first CEOs to take up the challenge after New Jersey governor Chris Christie nominated him. The 30-year-old billionaire’s video taking part in the Ice Bucket Challenge while standing in his back garden went viral.[/caption]

Apple CEO Tim Cook too was one of the tech leaders to get drenched in ice lastweek. Musician Michael Franti was more than happy to help him. Cook then called out Disney CEO Bob Iger and Apple’s new employee, Dr. Dre to go next.[/caption]

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos took to the stage for some stand up comedy after accepting the challenge. Bezos made a light joke that if he challenged Edward Snowden, the bucket would just leak! Bezos, then, asked the three Star Trek legends, William Shatner, George Takei and Patrick Stewart to take the ice bucket challenge within 24 hours.[/caption]

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, happily accepted Mark Zuckerberg’s challenge by allowing employees to ceremoniously throw the bucket of ice water on his head. He then challenged Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Google CEO Larry Page.[/caption]

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin also took the challenge. The duo called upon a couple of “Nooglers”- what Google calls its new employees - to do the bucket-dumping honour. Tons of Nooglers attended to watch the show.[/caption]
