Global beverages and snacks major PepsiCo roped in former Nokia head for emerging markets, including India, D Shivakumar as its Chairman and CEO, India Region.
Here's all you need to know about Shivakumar and his role at PepsiCo:
*Shivakumar, also known as Shiv in business circles, succeeds Manu Anand, who quit asPepsiCo Indiapresident in June this year and joined Cadbury India as managing director. For six months, PepsiCo India has been functioning without an India head andSanjeev Chadha, CEO - PepsiCo Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA), has been overseeing its operations.
* In his new role, Shivakumar will oversee all aspects of PepsiCo'sIndia business, which includes food and beverage brands such as Pepsi, Frito Lay's potato chips, Slice mango beverage, Kurkure snacks, Tropicana juices and Quaker oats.
*He would also be responsible for the NourishCo joint venture withTata Global Beveragesand franchise businesses in Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives."He will be responsible for strategically deploying the Rs 33,000 crore investment in India that PepsiCo announced last month," the company said.
*Shivakumar is an engineer from IIT-Chennai and an MBA from IIM-Calcutta and has worked atHindustan Unilever, Philips and Nokia, notes Times of India. He quit Nokia in March this year after the Finnish handset maker significantly lost market share to its Korean rival Samsung. He headed Nokia's businesses in India, Africa and West Africa. When contacted by TOI, Shivakumar refused to comment on his appointment.
*Last month, PepsiCo had announced plans for the company and its partners to invest Rs 33,000 crore in India by 2020 to double its business capacity in India.
*Commenting on the appointment, PepsiCo AMEA-CEO Sanjeev Chadha said both men will strengthen AMEA's position as the growth engine of PepsiCo as they brought their 'unique skills to bear in their respective roles'."I am thrilled to have two leaders of Shiv and Gautham's stature playing key roles in driving PepsiCo's business forward in AMEA," he added.
*The other contender for the top job at PepsiCo India, Gautham Mukkavilli, who has been heading its beverages division here, has been elevated to senior vice-president - business transformation, AMEA, effective March 1, 2014. Both Shivakumar and Mukkavilli will report directly to Chadha.
