'Once-in-a-blue-moon' offer: SpiceJet sells tickets at Rs 1,899 for February travel

Low-cost carrier SpiceJet has launched another sale to offering tickets starting at an all inclusive Rs 1,899 for one-way booking. The difference this time round is that the travel period is as immediate as today. In other words, the 2-day sale starting today is offering tickets for travel from today to 28 February. The offer is applicable on all direct and onward flights on SpiceJet’s domestic network, a press release from Spicejet said. “Booking tickets at the last minute is almost always an expensive affair. So here is a once-in-a-blue moon offer that makes immediate travels affordable and allows you to make that last minute dash, the impulsive weekend away, the surprise visit to meet parents and loved ones, without burning a hole in your pocket," Chief Commercial Officer Kaneswaran Avili said in the release [caption id=“attachment_2085009” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Reuters](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/spicejet-Reuters2.jpg) Reuters[/caption] This is the third discount offer from the airline in about 9 days. The aviation regulator DGCA had earlier last month lifted a ban it imposed on the airline’s advance bookings. After the ban was revoked, the airline restarted discount offers on 28 January selling tickets starting Rs 1,499. Two days back, it launched another sale starting Rs 1,599. But those sales were not for immediate travel. Promoters Kalanithi Maran and KAL Airways are in the process of selling the airline to its co-founder Ajay Singh Ajay Singh and a clutch of investors, in a bid to revive the struggling company. Singh has agreed to buy the entire 58 percent stake in the airline from the Marans. The deal is likely to be completed by April, media reports have said. According to reports, the airline has also started paying off its dues, after the investors pumped in their funds into the airline. In the latest edition of its monthly in-flight magazine, chief operating officer Sanjiv Kapoor said the company is in the process of changing hands with the return to the airline of co-founder Ajay Singh as promoter, and along with that comes re-capitalisation of the airline. “The future now looks secure,” Kapoor was quoted as saying in a PTI report.
