New Delhi: Kingfisher passengers who were to board a Dubai- New Delhi flight had a harrowing experience last night when after many hours of waiting, their flight was ultimately cancelled. The international flight, IT 42, was to leave Dubai at 12.30 am IST. First, the airline informed the 200 Delhi bound passengers that the flight would be delayed by 90 minutes due to a technical snag. “After the delay, we did the check-in and boarded the flight. At 4.30 am IST, we were deplaned and were told that the flight was canceled,” one of the affected passengers told Firstpost.

The airline then accommodated the passengers in a hotel and informed them that they could boar the same flight on Friday night. But many passengers canceled the tickets and opted for other airlines.
Kingfisher has drawn flak from The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) which has launched an inquiry into the cancellation of Kingfisher Airlines flights.
According to a news report in The Hindu last week, Kingfisher Airline CEO Sanjay Aggarwal met DGCA chief E.K. Bharat Bhushan last week and informed him that the airline would be able to operate only 28 of the 64 flights in its fleet. The DGCA, however, ruled out taking any punitive action against the airline.
In the third quarter of this year - Kingfisher reported losses of Rs. 444 crore, which means that its overall debt now stands at more than Rs 7,000 crore.

More ShortsOn Wednesday, union civil aviation minster Ajit Singh said that the airline would not be closed down because it was facing losses. “You can’t close down a company because they are making losses or banks are not giving them money. As long as passenger safety is not jeopardised, as long as they keep their schedule, why should we close down any industry”, he told PTI.
Meanwhile ground staff of the airline staged a protest at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport on Thursday against the non- payment of salaries for three months.
