An estimated 114.4 million people watched New England’s thrilling win over Seattle, making it the fifth time in six years that a Super Bowl game set a record as the most-watched event in US television history.
But, who was the biggest winner in the Super Bowl? Not New England, not social media and not even the amazing ads– turns out it was Pizza Hut.
The Yum Brands-owned pizza chain recorded its biggest digital sales day ever on Sunday.
“By halftime, the world’s largest pizza company surpassed last year’s sales figure, ultimately surpassing well over $10 (million) in digital sales,” Doug Terfehr, a spokesman for the chain, told CNBC in this report.
So, by the time Katy Perry’s show was over, most viewers were eating pizzas from you know where.
Pizza Hut launched its newly redesigned app and website for this year’s Super Bowl. But as this report notes , “Pizza Hut lacks in veteran status it makes up for in insane options for topping your pie. Bacon and cheese stuffed pretzel crust with honey sriracha drizzle?! As far as a pizza-lover like me is concerned, that’s basically a performance-enhancing drug.”
And that’s exactly why Pizza Hut won.
