Reuters[/caption] According to the Hurun India Philanthropy list 2014, South Indians were the most generous, donating Rs 13,300 crore, nearly five times the amount given in charity by North Indians. The Hurun Report list named Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan as the most generous person from Kerala, but it is IT tycoon Azim Hashim Premji who takes the prize as the most generous Indian, with a donation of Rs 8,000 crore in the past year. According to the New Indian Express, seven persons from Kerala have found place in the list of 49. All together they have donated a total of Rs 609 crore for charity. Keralites in the list are Azad Moopen (Rs.100 crore), S D Shibulal (Rs 48 crore), P N C Menon (Rs 26 crore), M A Yusuf Ali (Rs 18 crore) and Sunny Varkey (Rs 17 crore). In September, the same organisation had published a Kerala Rich List which was topped by M A Yusuf Ali, the Chairman of Emke Group, with a net worth of Rs 11,400 crore. In second was RP Group’s Ravi Pillai with Rs 9,600 crore followed by Sunny Varkey, founder and executive chairman of Dubai-centered Gems Education with Rs 9,000 crore. According to the Deccan Herald, the most important field was education, with a total contribution of Rs 12,200 crore. It was closely followed by social development (Rs 1,210 crore), healthcare (Rs 1,065 crore), rural development (Rs 565 crore), environmental cause (Rs 170 crore) and agriculture (Rs 40 crore).
