Mercedes rolls out premium SUV G62 at Rs 1.45 cr

Mumbai: German auto giant Mercedes Benz, which rolled out its premium sports utility vehicle G63 AMG here on Tuesday, said it will launch three new models in 2013 to expand its product portfolio.

“We will launch at least three more new models which include A-Class premium hatchback, SUV GL and a diesel variant of B-Class,” Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director & Chief Executive Eberhard Kern told reporters. The G63 AMG, priced at Rs 1.45 crore (ex-showroom Mumbai), will replace the G55 AMG that was launched two years ago.

Kern said he expects the luxury car market to do better this year in the country compared to last year, when the sales were reasonable.

“We are slightly optimistic and looking forward to good volumes this year. The luxury car market will be better than the previous year,” he said without putting a number for

growth rate nor the company’s sales target for this year. The luxury car maker, which sells eight models in the domestic market, sold 7,138 units in 2012 on the back of new

models, that included the new M-Class, C-Class AMG performance edition and the C-Class sport edition.

Kern, however, said much would depend on the forthcoming Budget. “We are hopeful of relaxation in taxes and don’t expect they will go further up. Taxes here are already much higher than many other countries.”

He also said the company plans to add six new outlets this year as it seeks to roll out new products in the coming months.

On capacity expansion plans, Kern said the output at the Chakan plant will be doubled next year.

Chennai Ranks #1 in Challan Checks: ACKO Insights for Smarter Car and Two Wheeler Insurance Decisions

Chennai leads India in challan checks, with drivers checking their e-challans over 5 times a month on average. Helmet non-compliance is the most broken rule, accounting for 34.8% of all traffic offences in Chennai. Regular digital challan checks help drivers avoid hefty fines, promote safe driving, and improve insurance premiums.
