Here is Forbes India's 30 Under 30: The new kids on the block

* A consultant at McKinsey in New York, Kabir Chadha, 27, came back to India, understood his grandmother’s loneliness and started an elderly care-giving service.

* Rahul Yadav, 24, straight out of IIT-Bombay, struggled to find rental accommodation. So, along with 11 other batchmates, he started a website that eases the housing woes of others.

* Sushant Singh Rajput, 27, was Indian television’s darling, at the top of his game, when he decided to take a leap of faith into films.

* The fixed price broking model hasn’t really taken off in India but Raghu Kumar, 28, figured out the chinks and decided it could work anyway.

* And then, there are fashion designers Shivan Bhatiya, 29, and Narresh Kukreja, 28, who catered to a client’s request for a modest costume and devised the bikini sari.

These are just a few of the 30 examples of gumption and ingenuity that comprise Forbes India’s first-ever 30 Under 30 list. Drawn from across the country and straddling 14 categories (including art & culture, design, e-commerce, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, law, policy & politics, sport, social enterprise, technology), the names have more than just their generation in common. They have passion, skill and, mostly, they are unafraid.

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list. (You may well know a sub-30 individual who might have made the cut.) But remember the landscape is too vast to guarantee comprehensiveness.

However, the research was robust enough to ensure quality that satisfies the parameters set out in the beginning: The extent of achievement and his/her impact in a short span of time; the level of disruption/innovation that has been shown; scalability of his/her business or line of work; is the nominee showing signs of being a flash in the pan or is there enough indication of a long-run play?

Now, if you satisfy all of these before you have even touched 30, you pretty much qualify for most lists. As an expert Forbes India spoke with during research said about a contender, you would be happy to have come this far at 40. To do it at 20-something is, well, special.
