The Indira Gandhi Airport on Tuesday became the first airport in the country to launch a pet travel information and facilitation desk - ‘Pet Fly’ - at Terminal-3.
According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the company, which manages IGI Airport, the new service will provide the pet owners with end-to-end solution for all travel needs of the pets at the passenger terminal.
The pet owner can visit the ‘Pet Fly’ desk, which will facilitate the pet owner in seeking clearance from the airline, accommodate the pet in a kennel of appropriate size and get it checked-in as excess baggage. The kennel is then scanned through X-ray machine before the passenger boards the flight.
Earlier, the pet check-ins had to go through cargo terminal, and handling and other regulatory clearance procedures were not part of passenger facilities at the airport.
The service is handled by a specialised company ‘Pet Fly’ which was launched in 2005 and has a team of veterinarian doctors for treating and relocating pets worldwide.
