These models are priced between Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

When asked if the premium superbikes could be assembled in India at Bajaj Auto’s plant, Shigeto replied in the negative.

“We don’t have plans for any CKD (completely knocked down) assembly of our premium motorcycles in India. It is due to the need for training technicians and also need for expansion of capacity for which we would need volumes to justify,” he said.

Each model will need to have a sales volume of about 160-200 units per year for CKD to happen, Shigeto said.

Commenting on new model line-up, he said: “Once we build these brands, we will expand the Kawasaki range of premium end bikes. We will consider launching adventure or cruiser bikes in the next two years in India.”

Stating that the Indian high-end motorcycle market offers tremendous growth opportunities, India Kawasaki Motors Managing Director Yuji Horiuchi said the company is launching the two new models to further strengthen its presence targeted at specific audiences.

India Kawasaki Motors will expand its business territory in a phase-wise manner. With its focus on Maharashtra and NCR; the expansion will follow in the rest of the country, the company said.
