Data, a buzzword in the tech realm, is everywhere. And it’s huge; growing at a phenomenal, exponential rate with no plans of stopping. As Big Data gets bigger, cloud adoption has rapidly increased and we now see cloud adoption across companies, big and small. Gartner predicts the Indian public cloud services market will reach $731 million by the end of 2015. The growth of both Big Data and cloud computing has led to data centers evolving far beyond just stacks of servers. Their potential is reaching new heights. Data center construction will grow at 21 percent per year through 2018.
The storage industry has created change in the data center space, opening up opportunities that weren’t there before. As a result of the massively changing storage environment, we can do so much more than simply making storage faster. We can now alter the data center infrastructure, creating one that takes up a fraction of the space a previous generation of data centers needed, by just removing outdated technology like hard disk drives. We can provide a solution with less points of failure by boosting efficiency on existing data centers that in the past would no longer be usable. In other words, data centers look nothing like they used to and data center growth is spanning the whole world. For being arguably the most important buildings in the world, data centers don’t look like much. Most are plain, utilitarian structures located on the edge of population centers, but they are at the hub of everything we do. And they are growing at a remarkable rate. The infographic below lists six significant facts about the newly refurbished data centers of today.
