This is probably the best reward for voting anyone could ask for. ( We already did )
The _Hindustan Times_today reports (link unavailable online) that the Mumbai Jewellers’ Association is offering citizens who voted on 24 April a 15-20 percent discount on jewellery making charges. The offer began on 25 April and runs until the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, 2 May.
Though people usually do buy gold on Akshaya Tritiya, the ongoing offer is likely to loosen customer purse strings a little more. The fact that the wedding season is currently on will also influence retail demand.
According to the HT report, the going discount rates for necklaces are between Rs 500-1,000 for 12 grams and between Rs 1,500-2,000 for 25 grams. Rings weighing 7 grams carry markdowns of upto Rs 650, while those weighing 15 grams are between Rs 1,200-1,400 off.
In light of the various businesses looking to cash in on the election tamasha and encouraging citizens to go vote by offering freebies and discounts, _Firstbiz_had put out a wishlist of things we hoped would be discounted if we exercised our fundamental duty on polling days. Apart from gold, the list included real estate, holiday packages and loans.
Are any banks listening?
