The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Vodafone chairman Analjit Singh under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) on 31 August reports CNBCTV18’s Nayantara Rai.
The ED demanded seven different kind of documents to be presented including Singh’s overseas remittances since 2005, information on Vodafone India’s shareholders since 2007 and information on the company’s direct and indirect foreign shareholders since 2007.
In addition to this, it also asked the company to produce a copy of the firm’sForeign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) application and approval and its agreement with Vodafone Netherlands.
Analjit Singh, who has been the director of Vodafone since 2002, is likely to send an authorised representative on his behalf.
When contacted, the company declined to comment.
