Which cities do most graduates move to for jobs? Bangalore among top 10 cities globally

So, which cities in the world attract the most graduates? LinedIn did a compilation, and you will be surprised to know Bangalore features among the top 10 cities of the world.

Which cities do most graduates move to for jobs? Bangalore among top 10 cities globally

Corporate houses are always on the lookout for the smartest students. But, for students, the cities where their jobs will be based is as important as the companies they are hired by. So, which cities in the world attract the most graduates? LinkedIn did a study to find out, and guess what, the only Indian city to feature on the global list of 10 cities was Bangalore.

Over the last year, LinkedIn picked outthe cities that new graduates were most likely to move to afterlooking at its massive data set of job applicantsand user profiles.A move was defined as migrating more than 100 miles for a new position listed on a person’s profile.

Bangalore ranked as the ninth most attractive destination for students in the LinkedIn list. According to the social networking site, 34 percent of new residents living in Bangalore in 2013 were recent college graduates.

The major companies that hired the most graduates were the obvious ones–the big IT companies which included Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Cognizant Technology Solutions. However, Mu Sigma,which is a leading provider of big data and analytics solutions for Fortune 500 organizations also ranked among the top organisations that hired the most graduates last year.

A recent data by Naukri Job Speak Index shows that despite lockouts and layoffs, there’s a job boom in the ‘IT hub of the country.’ The Naukri Job data showed thatmonthly hiring activity in Bangalore increased by 8 percent in February, over January 2014.

“Bangalore is a good place to start a career. There are far more opportunities here to be financially independent than in other places,” Amit Bansal, CEO of skill development firm PurpleLeap was quoted by DNA in this report.

According to LinkedIn, Paris is the favourite destination of graduates all over the world. It noted that42 percent of new residents in 2013 were recent college graduates. The major companies hiring in Paris were BNP Paribas, L’Oral, LVMH, EDF and Socit Gnrale.

In its blog, LinkedIn notes that while theresulting shortlist of destination cities included some that were obvious (like Paris), and others that weren’t (like Minneapolis).

The other cities that were included in the LinkedIn list areSao Paulo,San Francisco Bay Area, london, Chicago, New York, Madrid and Washington.
