Studying in the UK just got costlier, guess who is smiling?

Students beware! Your plans of studying abroad may have just been thrown out of the window. The cost of studying in the UK and New Zealand got costlier as the countries have hiked funds required to meet living costs, reported the Business Standard today. However, every dark cloud has a silver lining, as this in turn may end up benefiting other countries like Canada and the USA in attracting Indian students.

Countries like New Zealand and UK have increased funds requirement by 50 percent and 25 percent, respectively. For example, if you plan to study in New Zealand, you will need to have access to $15,000 per annum to cover the cost of living against the existing $10,000. And, if you are planning to study in the UK, international students will have to show that they have ?12,000 per annum (? 1,000 a month) against ?9,600 per annum earlier (?800 a month).

This is surely going to affect students who were planning to study in these two countries. In fact, this is a big blow for students who have already secured a seat at some of these colleges as they will now have to arrange extra funds to meet the new requirements.

Some students feel that they could ask for an exemption as they have already got an appointment letter from the college, but it does not work like that. “Visa guidelines have nothing to do with a students admission. Even if the norms change on the day of applying for a visa, you will have to adhere to the norms, said Anirudha Hatwalne, an Aurangabad based consultant to Business Standard.

However, every dark cloud has a silver lining, as this in turn may end up benefiting other countries like Canada and the USA.
