Urijit Patel, an adviser in the Boston Consulting Group, has been appointed as the deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, banking secretary DK Mittal said today.
Economist and public finance expert Urjit R Patel has replaced Subir Gokarn who left office on December 31 after a three-year term and a one-month extension.
Gokarn was heading the monetary policy department, among others.
Patel is currently a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, a US-based think tank, and adviser to the Boston Consulting Group.
Kalpana Kochhar,World Bank’s South Asia chief economist, had also been shortlisted for the post.
