Do You Need Travel Insurance to Travel to Thailand

Travel insurance is an important document that protects you from potential financial risks and hassles during overseas trips. If you lose your luggage or have a medical emergency, you can contact the insurance provider for timely assistance. While travel insurance is not mandatory for tourists in some countries, others will not allow you to travel without it.

Talking about Thailand, travel insurance is not mandatory for international travellers. Nonetheless, it is wise to secure your trip with **travel insurance for Thailand** to cover different risks while on an overseas tour. Let’s discuss this in detail.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Should you take travel insurance for Thailand?

Travel insurance is not mandatory for tourists visiting Thailand. However, it is always wise to keep this travel document handy for a hassle-free trip. A travel insurance policy ensures financial security and peace of mind throughout the trip and helps you make the most of your tour. Therefore, whether you are visiting Thailand for work or leisure, travel insurance will cover you against unforeseen situations.

Let’s take a look at the many benefits that a travel insurance policy offers to travellers.

Benefits of travel insurance

**Travel insurance** offers a host of benefits to policyholders and helps them travel stress-free. The following are the benefits of a travel insurance policy —

  1. Emergency hospitalisation expenses: A medical emergency can happen at any time, and the hospital bills can exhaust your travel budget easily. However, if you have travel insurance, the insurer will cover your hospital bills and associated expenses and ease your worries.

  2. Emergency dental treatment: If you require emergency dental treatment during the trip, the insurer will cover the expenses. For example, if you suffer a dental injury while on a holiday in Thailand, the insurer will cover the treatment bills.

  3. Other medical expenses: A travel insurance policy also covers other medical expenses, such as a personal accident, medical evacuation, and repatriation of mortal remains.

  4. Loss of checked-in baggage: Losing your checked-in baggage can be quite distressing. If you have travel insurance, the insurer will compensate you for the loss incurred.

  5. Delay of checked-in baggage: If your checked-in baggage gets delayed, the insurer will reimburse the money spent on buying the essentials. However, the same is subject to policy terms and conditions. For example, some insurance companies compensate the insured only if their checked-in baggage gets delayed by 12 hours or more.

  6. Trip delay: If your trip gets delayed due to flight cancellation, rescheduling, natural calamity, or any other reason mentioned in the policy’s terms and conditions, the insurer will reimburse the additional expenses incurred.

  7. Trip cancellation: If you have to cancel your trip due to a natural calamity, emergency hospitalisation, or any other genuine reason, the insurer will reimburse the trip cancellation charges and associated expenses.

  8. Missed flight connection: If you miss your connecting flight due to the delayed arrival of the earlier flight or any other reason beyond your control, the insurer will compensate you for the same.

  9. Loss of Passport: If you happen to lose your Passport during the trip, the insurer will reimburse the expenses that you incur to get a new or duplicate one.

  10. Personal liability: If you are legally liable to a third party for bodily injury or property damage in an accident, the insurer will come to your rescue.

  11. Emergency cash: If you lose your money to theft or robbery during the trip, the insurer will give you an emergency cash allowance. However, the allowance will be up to the amount mentioned in the policy terms and conditions.

  12. Compassionate visit: If you get hospitalised during the trip for a certain number of days, the insurer will cover the compassionate visit expenses of an immediate family member.

  13. Hijack distress allowance: If the common carrier in which you are travelling gets hijacked and kept captive by the hijackers thereafter, the insurer will offer compensation for the same.

Conclusion

No matter where you go, it is crucial to stay protected against unexpected situations, including flight delays, baggage loss, medical emergencies, and even petty crimes. Hence, before travelling to Thailand, get a travel insurance policy that keeps you safe in every way.

Keeping the many benefits of travel insurance for Thailand in mind, it is wise to take this coverage for better financial security. Many insurance providers in India offer 24/7 support to policyholders. Therefore, if you happen to find yourself in a distressing situation at any time during the trip, your travel insurance provider is a call away!
