Zomato, the Delhi-based restaurant listing website plans to have a payment product that will enable users to pay at restaurants using the Zomato app and be able to talk to restaurant owners, too.
“The idea here is to enable cashless payments for restaurants. We will soon pilot this in Dubai and roll it out in other geographies over the course of the next two quarters,” said Pankaj Chaddah, Co-Founder, Zomato.
In a move which was expected to come sooner than later, Zomato expanded its revenue source by introducing advertisements on its mobile app. Zomato’s app will show advertisements of restaurants depending on the user’s location and their search history.
The company said it gets more than 50 percent of its traffic from mobile apps and around 4,500 restaurants from over 15 countries advertise on Zomato. The company has been focusing on its mobile property of late and it recently launched ‘Zomato for Business Application’, an app to help restaurants engage with diners and drive business.
The app allows restaurants to get more out of their business with services that will simplify their daily operations. Restaurant owners will be able to connect and engage with their customers real-time by being able to reply to their reviews within seconds.
It also allows restaurants to upload in-line snippets and image tiles of their promotions directly, post discounts, specials or freebies, and special menus on their restaurant page, helping them keep their content relevant and updated.
The company also expanded its overseas business to Dublin, Ireland, making the tally of 19 countries where it has its operations. It plans to expand to 14 more countries over the next year.
“We have been doing very well in our existing European markets, and we’re looking forward to becoming an integral part of Ireland’s vibrant dining culture. It’s a nation that loves its food, and the vast number of internet and mobile users in the country gives us a great opportunity to do just that,” said Goyal.
